HYCHEM E 300
Epoxy Trowelling Resin
Chemical Type
Low viscosity Bis A/F epoxy resin
Description
HYCHEM E300 is a low viscosity epoxy resin designed to be blended with aggregate to produce a trowelled epoxy mortar. It is capable of being applied with a screed box using a 3-4:1 by volume mortar mix. This system produces the most consistent epoxy floors with ideal resin sand distribution. The finished mortar is primarily designed for the application of a 5-8mm epoxy mortar bed to concrete floors in the food and beverage industries.
Major Applications
- Fish, meat and poultry retailing, abattoirs, butcher shops and smallgoods manufacturers.
- Dairy and fat products processing, commercial kitchens and bars.
- Food and beverage manufacturers, breweries, juice processors, bakery floors, wineries, battery rooms.
Chemical Properties
HYCHEM E 300 has excellentr resistance to spillage of a wide range of chemicals such as dilute mineral acids, dilute alkalies, petroleum oils and aliphatic solvents. It is resistant to vegetable fats, animal fats, ammonia and chlorine based cleaning fluids at ambient temperatures. Elevated temperatures and hot fats need special consideration, the use of HYCHEM TL 2 is recommended. For constant exposure to phosphoric, nitric and/or acetic acid in excess of 10%, HYCHEM TL 2 should be used. Full chemical resistance of epoxies develops only 7 days after initial cure even though full mechanical strength has already been reached.
Surface Preparation
The existing surface needs to be free of fats, oils, curing agents, surface laitance and other recognisable contaminants. Shot blasting, diamond grinding, acid washing and caustic degreasing are acceptable techniques. The finished prepared surface must have a tensile strength capable of absorbing the shear stresses applied by the epoxy as a result of thermal movements. The surface tensile strength (DIN 1048 part 2) should be at least 2.0 mPa with the lowest individual value a minimum of 1.5 mPa. Highly porous surfaces need to be primed with an initial coat of HYCHEM E300. This also applied when a dry mix subfill is used.
Product Preparation
Resin and hardener are mixed at 2 volumes to 1 and then poured into a suitable mechanical mixer to which the appropriate amount of quartz aggregate is added. The amount and grading of the quartz aggregate varies with the depth of topping required. Where used as a subf1ll a coarser 2 mm aggregate is often added.
Application
- E300X Mortar Topping: The wet mortar mix is poured on the floor and trowelled to a minimum depth of 6 mm. Once cured, a seal coat is applied at a rate of 4-5 square metres per litre. The area is allowed to cure for a minimum of 8 hours. For a non-skid finish, calcined alumina aggregate is sprinkled onto the floor at the desired level and grade. A final seal coat of HYCHEM E 300T is then applied. This seal coat contains a small amount of thixotrope and quartz flour to improve surface build and opacity.
Coverage
Priming: Varies with porosity of the substrate, allow 4-6 sqm per litre.
Scratch Coat: 1-2 sqm per litre, dependant on texture of the surface.
Trowell Coat: 1.5 litres per sqm for 6mm topping.
Seal Coat: 0.5 litres/ sqm or 2 sqm per litre.
Aggregate Requirement: Around 20-25kg for 3 litres of mixed resin.
Packaging
HYCHEM E 300 is available in 30 litre and 60 litre kits. HYCHEM E 300T is available in 8 litre kits.Indicative Specifications
