Description

HYCHEM SF 25 is a hard wearing, solvent resistant, waterproof epoxy coating designed for the protection of concrete, block-work, brick, steel and timber surfaces.

HYCHEM SF 25 is primarily designed for broad area surfaces such as carparks, shopping centres, public areas, workshops and warehouses.

HYCHEM SF25 is also recommended for walls and ceilings in food manufacturing plants, ablution blocks and swimming pool complexes. In fact anywhere where water condensation or water cleaning regimes prevent the use of conventional acrylic paints.

Major Applications

HYCHEM SF 25 is the paint to use where other paints have reached the limits of their effectiveness.
When ordinary paints can’t handle the traffic: footpaths, parking lots, safety areas, line-markings, stairs, storerooms, warehouses and factory floors. HYCHEM SF 25 outlasts other paint systems with its special anti-wear characteristics. The water based, low odour formulation allows widespread use in the institutional, hospital and school market. HYCHEM SF 25 when topcoated with HYCHEM PU-100 is suited to outdoor use. An ideal non skid paint for concrete pavements and stairs around motels, hotels, health centres & resorts.

Chemical Properties

HYCHEM SF 25 is highly resistant to petroleum oils and solvents. It can be cleaned with graffitti removers based on caustic and solvents. It should not be exposed to acid based cleaners or environments.

Surface Preparation

Surfaces must be free of oil, dust, curing agents and other contaminants. Poorly consolidated concrete surfaces, (eg. less than 1.5 MPa tensile strength) need to be surface ground to remove the weakened top layer. The ground surface should be primed with HYCHEM GP for maximum long term effectiveness. Priming with HYCHEM 100 is a suitable option for areas not subject to heavy traffic.

Product Preparation

HYCHEM SF 25 Resin is a pigmented conventional solventless epoxy which must first be blended with the hardener before it possesses water based properties. Pigmentation of the resin is achieved with conventional epoxy pigments. Mechanically mix the resin and hardener thoroughly for a minimum of one minute prior to beginning application.

Application

It is most important that surfaces treated with HYCHEM SF 25 are well ventilated and that the humidity remains below 80%. The product should not be applied below 10°C as water evaporation is severly retarded due to the low maximum water vapour content at this temperature and below. The use of a space heater is required when operating at reduced temperatures. HYCHEM SF 25 may be applied by brush, roller or airless spray.
The normal finish is high gloss. A top-coat of Hychem 100 clear water based epoxy can be applied to improve cleanability.

Coverage

Varies with application technique, may be applied from 6 - 10 sqm/litre per coat. On a primed surface one heavy coat may be satisfactory for low traffic areas. A heavier build is recommended for flooring finishes as wear resistance is determined by dry film coating thickness.

Advantages

HYCHEM SF 25 is superior to conventional acrylic paints where resistance to water, cleaning agents, solvents and abrasive wear are important factors. Surfaces coated with HYCHEM SF 25 can be cleaned with high pressure water and graffitti cleaners. They are also highly resistant to abrasive wear.

Packaging

HYCHEM SF 25 is available in silver grey and neutral. It can be pigmented with epoxy pigments to almost any colour. 4 litres of Part A are blended with 12 litres of Part B.

Work Time	Mixed components must be used within 1.5 hours
Cure Time	Touch dry in 24 hours, 90% physical and chemical performance in 7 days
Outdoor Exposure	SF 25 can be used with HYCHEM 100 PU topcoat to prevent chalking.

Floor coating is to be a water based epoxy paint with good abrasion and high solvent resistance. The product is to be HYCHEM SF 25

Safety Precautions
Epoxy products may cause allergic reactions through skin contact, goggles, protective gloves and overalls must be worn. Ensure that there is adequate ventilation and avoid breathing the vapour.
