HYCHEM SF20
EPOXY FLOOR COATING
Chemical Type
Amine cured epoxy resin.
Description
HYCHEM SF 20 is a solventless epoxy coating which when applied gives an attractive gloss finish. To cater for varying surface needs it is available as a smooth and FG finish. For an antiskid finish, it is recommended that 1 Kg of 60 - 80 mesh calcined alumina be added to each 9lt kit of mixed product.
Major Applications
- Motor workshops, aircraft hangars, vehicle depots and spare parts warehouses.
- Production areas in food manufacturing plants requiring the highest standard of aesthetics and hygiene.
- Institutional floor coverings in health, corrective services and education.
- Pharmaceutical, cosmetics and chemical specialities manufacturers.
- Electrical & other component manufacturers needing an attractive dust free finish.
- Multi level car parks in residential apartment complexes and shopping centres
- Service and public areas in retail liquor, clothing and bulk warehouses
- Attractive safety finishes in hotels, clubs, sporting venues and entertainment complexes.
Chemical Properties
HYCHEM SF20 is resistant to spillage of oils, hydraulic fluids, fats, acids, alkalies and cleaning agents. It must be noted however that thin coatings are not suitable for containment of materials corrosive to concrete as physical damage can lead to direct concrete attack. In such ninstances HYCHEM SF 20 is always used in conjunction with an epoxy mortar underlay/ The pigments in the coating may alter in colour when exposed to bleaches and acidic solutions, the choice of colour needs to consider the expected end use environment. For better long term resistance to surface staining a final coat of HYCHEM SF 20 Clear is recommended.
Surface Preparation
The existing surface needs to be free of fats, oils, curing agents, surface laitance and other recognisable contaminants. Shot blasting or diamond grinding are acceptable techniques. Greasy, dirty surfaces need first to be caustic washed. The finished prepared surface must have a tensile strength capable of absorbing the shear stresses applied by the epoxy as a result of thermal movements. Surface tensile strength (DIN 1048 Part 2) must be at least 1 MPa. As HYCHEM SF20 will not cover holes in the surface these need to be filled with a patching compound such as HYCHEM PF-4.On many occasions the concrete has been worn back to exposed aggregate. Such surface defects are best made good by application of a HYCHEM GP Epoxy Mortar Mix.
Product Preparation
Resin and hardener need first to be stirred to incorporate any settled solids. The mixed fluids are then combined. For neutral packs, 1.5 Kg of pigment paste to colour must be added per 6 litres of product. Additional epoxy solvent can be added to ease application up to a maximum of 10% by volume
Application
The product is designed to be applied at 3 - 6 sqm / litre using quality rollers to avoid fleece entrapment. Applied at this rate, a coating of minimum 150 micron dft/ coat results. When alumina grit is added, the surface has a satin appearance with a very fine non skid finish. Care needs to be taken not to apply the product too thickly, thereby hiding the antiskid aggregate.
HIGHT IMPACT SF 20 Topping - For maximum performance, a HYCHEM E300SL self levelling epoxy topping at 1 - 3 mm in thickness is applied prior to coating with HYCHEM SF20.
Coverage
A 9 litre pack will cover a minimum of 60 sqm when applied correctly to a previously primed surface. For a first primer coat on bare concrete additional solvent can be added.
Advantages
HYCHEM SF 20 is highly versatile, available in a wide colour range, resistant to many chemicals and suited to both smooth and non skid finishes.
Packaging
HYCHEM SF 20 available in 9 litre packs containing 6 litres of neutral resin and 3 litres of hardener. To each 6 litre pack of neutral resin a 750 ml epoxy pigment pack needs to be added.Indicative Specifications
